Drawing on the research for her book, Contemporary Art and the Production of Inequality, in this session Andrea Phillips will argue that the conditions of artistic and curatorial production within Northern Europe do not adequately address their own epistemological guarantees. These conditions are inculcated and exacerbated by art education and the conceptualisation of ‘artistic research’ as a field of privatised turbulence. The talk will bring together stories of other, older, differently territorialised models of cultural education with radical management and administration theory. It will be a work in progress as Andrea Phillips is in the midst of writing and thinking.
