Arlène Shale is a poet, journalist, and one of the original group of gardeners of the Pote-a-Jean community garden, + plus an initiative launched by the art association Utopiana, which wished to create a community garden behind its artist residency house at 21 avenue des Eidguenots. The gardeners — most of whom lived in the neighborhood, while others were connected to Utopiana — broke ground in spring 2013, but had to cease activities in fall 2016: On loan from the city of Geneva, the parcel of land upon which the association and the garden sat is now being developed into a large residential housing unit. The association Utopiana has since moved locales, and some of the members of the community garden have relocated to another plot of land near the Cayla primary and middle school.
